Black Aswad Coffee Co., is a movement created during the pandemic in order to honor those who have been affected by the deadly virus, either directly or indirectly. It also seeks to raise awareness for those who are struggling by providing a sense of hope and optimism. This movement was launched in 2020-21, during a time when the global state of things had become increasingly tough and challenging.
The name 'Aswad' is derived from an Arabic word meaning 'dark' or 'black'. It symbolizes the idea of a ‘black knight’ or ‘dark knight’; a savior that can provide comfort and assurance, amidst the darkness. The sentiment behind this initiative is; when people come together through solidarity, there is always strength in numbers and it can make difficult situations more bearable not just for themselves but for everyone around them.
The core mission of Black Aswad is to promote healthiness both physically and mentally, embracing conversations that create peace within individuals, as well as, communities at large. They recognize that everyone has gone through unique hardships during this period – yet we all have something valuable we can contribute towards making the world a better place for ourselves, as well as, others around us.
